Final Post...For Now

Well I want to start off by thanking everyone who gave me advice when I was stressing. IT HELPED SO MUCH!!! Right now I want to talk about my TED Talk. So, I remember when I was preparing for my TED Talk I was starting to get nervous. I practiced and practiced until I felt I had it pretty much memorized. I felt confident in myself and felt that I would do pretty well. I was a little hesitant to tell people about what I went through but I knew it had to be done in order to feel better. The morning of the TED Talk I was starting to get nervous but then I told myself constantly that I knew I had it in me. After telling myself that, I felt amazing. I gave my speech and felt relieved the moment afterwards. I felt as if I did really great and I was proud of myself.
My original project that I planned to do was that I wanted to create a video to show people how to overcome obstacles because I know what it is like to need someone or something to help me go through my situation at home when I was younger. After failing to video tape children at an organization called Boys Town, I didn't know what to do. I started to stress. Then, I started talking to people who helped me recover from this failure. Now, I plan to create a group therapy for Chinquapin. I want to do this because I know several people at Chinquapin who have gone or are going through hardships. I've been through counseling and every time I had a session, I felt like I could fly. The point of this group therapy is to show people that they are not alone in this world. Also to show them that there are many people who go through the same thing and that are willing to help them overcome their struggles.
Susan Davis, Rosita Brooks, Debora Ybara, and Peggy Mahan are the four people that I want to put on my panel. The first person that I want to be a part of my panel is Susan Davis, an amazing teacher at Chinquapin, because she has helped me through so much. She is a great inspiration to me and I feel like she has pushed me to become a better person. She is the most motivational teacher that I have. I feel like she'll advise me to do the right things on my project and let me know when I'm making a mistake. I want her to evaluate how well I express myself. Rosita Brooks is a counselor at my middle school who helped me while I struggled at school. She has a lot of knowledge about how to help people overcome struggles. I want her to help me put together my group therapy and show me how to effectively maintain that group. I want her to evaluate how creative my project is. Debora Ybara is my mentor and works at Texas Children Hospital. I know that I'll stress through this process and that I'll need to someone to help me "de-stress." Because she works in the medical field, I am hoping and praying that she'll have contact with therapists and psychiatrists. I want her to evaluate how realistic my project is. Peggy Mahan is another counselor that has helped me get through high school. She knows almost everything about me. She has worked with Chinquapin so I hope that she'll give me advice about how to put this group together at Chinquapin. I want her to evaluate how effective and useful my group will be.

A little stressed out

So yesterday night I decided to make some phone calls to this group called Boys Town. I called to get some information on what the status of people going to those meeting are and if I could take video of them ( I don't necessarily see their faces in the video it could be anonymous or not). but then the lad told me that i couldn't because they are kids under age and are protected by the law. I am stressing out due to the fact that now i have to find a new organization to look into. what should i do or say to the people so they know that the video can be to where faces won't be seen? Please someone help!!

"S.top A.buse F.or E.verybody"

Well as I posted earlier, I want to make a video on people who have gone through many hardships in life. I started thinking about the hardships people can go through and decided that abuse was a hardship that is difficult to overcome. "Over 3 million reports of child abuse are made every year in the United States" (http://www.childhelp.org/). I feel like every help there is to prevent abuse is necessary because there is never too much help. Looking at those numbers, I know that people who have been abused will appreciate any and every help they can get. I want to try to inspire these people to keep their heads up high and to not linger on the past.

The first thing I did for this project was researching abuse and what I found was pretty disturbing. For example, "8 out of 10 sexual abusers are someone that is apart of the family", and "for every reported abuse incident, about two others are unreported" (http://www.dosomething.org/ For more facts about abuse I recommend the sites http://www.dosomething.com/, http://www.childhelp.org/, http://pediatrics.about.com/od/childabuse/a/05_abuse_stats.htm, and http://www.yesican.org/ The reasons why I found these sites to be interesting was that not only did it give you facts abuse, it gave support and help for abused people. If it isn't "treated" then it will control their lives. It will corrupt their minds, making them think that it is their fault for being abused. They will learn to depend on others and to trust no one. But it doesn't have to be this way! It is possible to live a healthy life after getting help.

http://www.safe4all.org/ is a site that really stood out to me. This site was created by the S.A.F.E. (stop abuse for everybody) organizations where they helped other service providers expand their organization, where they included a online support group, and where they accepted donations to help abused people. This site gave real life experiences of people who were abused and still are being abused. It also gave support and advice on how to overcome their past. There is a blog on this site where people can just write freely and not worry about being criticized. I want to try to contact this organization to get advise about my project. I am also hoping that they will support my project in any way possible.

What it takes to be inspired

My project is to make a video on people who have gone through many hardships in life. therefore while looking through the videos "TED talk" I found one video in particular that stood out to me. It was about a woman who had cancer. Everyone who knows what cancer is or has someone in thier family that has gone through cancer knows that this is something very difficult to go through and overcome. This story talks about how she has overcome cancer and how she has moved on. That is the root of my project, I want to inspire people and show those people who do have it bad that they can overcome it. If she could do it so could you. If you would like to view this video I posted the link to it. I hope you enjoy it.

Keep Moving Forward

During the summer I thought about the senior project with much thought. I tried to think of something that I was motivated to do but at the same time something that would motivate other people. I have great interest in media. I thought about a way that I could motivate people through either music, photos or videos. I immediately realized that a video would be not only more fun but also a great way to get my point across to other people. The next things I thought about was who I was going to address in my video and what I wanted to motivate them to do. After a while of thinking about this, I decided that I wanted to address students who struggle with conflicts due to school work and family situations. A reason why I chose to address them is because, like most students at the high school level, I am a student who, at one point, has struggled with many conflicts. Having a great deal on your mind can prevent you from doing many things. It isn't fun to stress, so I want to help students get out of stressful situations. Through my video I will focus on how to motivate them to move forward. I want this video to be a sort of guidance for these students. Right now, I'm not too sure on how I will motivate them, but I am thinking about making this a step-by-step/how-to video.

ROWE in School

In Daniel .H. Pink Drive, chapter four he speaks about a certain company that uses a strategy called ROWE, (result-only work environment) which means working without a schedule. In reading about ROWE I believe that using this strategy works more than putting a person under deadlines. When Gunther the owner of a company, implemented ROWE in his workplace the productivity increased. I believe that our school should implement ROWE on our students when it comes to certain classes such as math or English. In chinquapin certain teachers give lessons at the beginning of class and then allow the students to do work. I think that the students that feel comfortable enough with the lesson that has been taught should be able to leave the classroom as long as they turn in there assignments on time. I believe that if students were able to leave early from class it would give them the freedom to work as they please, in a place where they feel more comfortable, and where they would be more willing to finish there work. This would also show the student responsibility witch would make them more willing to do what is expected of them. Using ROWE also shows that the teacher has trust in the student and will make the student feel as if he/she was being treated as an adult instead of a little kid that has to be reminded of his/her work
